How to Vet a Research Peptide Vendor (2026 Checklist)
Choosing a research peptide supplier is a due-diligence exercise, not a shopping decision. The wrong vendor wastes budget on under-dosed or misidentified compounds and, worse, contaminates every downstream result in your lab notebook. This 2026 checklist walks through the exact criteria we apply when evaluating a supplier — the same criteria we hold ourselves to at Ares Research.
1. Third-party Certificates of Analysis (COAs)
A legitimate research peptide vendor publishes a batch-specific COA for every lot they ship. Look for:
- HPLC purity report showing the actual chromatogram, not just a printed percentage.
- Mass spectrometry (MS) confirming the peptide's molecular weight matches the target sequence.
- Independent lab (not the vendor's in-house QC) — Janoshik, Alphascience, or an equivalent ISO-accredited facility.
- Batch/lot number printed on the COA that matches the label on the vial you receive.
If a vendor only shows a generic "≥99% purity" banner with no downloadable COA per lot, treat that as a marketing claim, not evidence.
2. Sourcing and Manufacturing Transparency
Ask — or read their FAQ for — the answers to:
- Where is the peptide synthesized? (Country and, ideally, facility.)
- Is the same facility used across batches, or do they rotate suppliers?
- What is their lyophilization and fill process? Are vials filled under inert gas?
Vendors that dodge these questions are almost always reselling bulk material with no chain of custody.
3. Storage and Cold-chain Shipping
Most research peptides are stable at room temperature for days, but longer transit windows compound degradation risk. Serious vendors:
- Ship in insulated packaging with an ice pack for multi-day transit.
- Use tracked services (USPS Ground Advantage, UPS, FedEx) with delivery confirmation.
- Publish storage instructions on the product page and on the vial label.
Loose bubble mailers with no cold pack in July are a red flag, especially for GLP-family and growth-hormone secretagogues.
4. Pricing Sanity Check
Peptide pricing follows real supply-side costs. If a vial is priced dramatically below the market average for the same milligram amount, one of three things is true:
- It's mislabeled or under-dosed.
- It's a different compound entirely (bacteriostatic water dilution, mannitol filler, or a cheaper analog).
- The vendor is running a loss-leader to acquire customers and will disappear in 90 days.
Compare pricing across at least three established vendors before assuming a "deal" is legitimate.
5. Customer Support and Traceability
Real labs answer real questions. Before you place a first order, email support and ask something specific — reconstitution volume, storage half-life, or COA for a particular lot. You're testing two things:
- Response time (a functioning business replies in under 48 hours).
- Technical accuracy (canned "consult a professional" replies mean nobody on staff actually understands the product).
6. Payment and Refund Policy
Research peptide vendors typically accept crypto and card. Neither is a red flag on its own — but the *policy* around them is:
- A vendor that only accepts irreversible payment (crypto-only, no card, no PayPal) AND publishes no refund policy is structurally set up to keep your money no matter what arrives.
- A vendor that publishes a clear reship/refund policy for damaged, lost, or mis-shipped orders is the baseline.
7. Red Flags Checklist
Walk away if you see:
- No downloadable per-batch COA.
- COAs that don't include batch numbers or independent lab letterhead.
- Prices 40%+ below the market for equivalent mg.
- No physical address or business registration information anywhere on the site.
- Social-media-only presence with no website history (check the Wayback Machine — a "peptide company" registered last month is not a company).
- Reviews only on the vendor's own site with no third-party footprint (Trustpilot, Reddit threads, forum history).
- Marketing copy that describes dosing for humans. Research peptides are sold for research use only; vendors that dose-recommend for humans are creating legal exposure for both sides.
8. What "For Research Use Only" Actually Means
Every legitimate vendor labels product For Research Use Only. Not for Human Consumption. This isn't a loophole — it's the legal basis on which unapproved compounds can be sold to laboratories at all. Vendors that ignore this labeling requirement are one enforcement letter away from disappearing, taking your outstanding orders with them.
