Peptide Purity Verification: Turning a Claim Into Evidence
Every vendor claims high purity. Verification is the process of converting that claim into something a third party could check. It comes down to four questions: who measured it, when, on which lot, and can the raw output be inspected.
Read the chromatogram, not the headline
A purity percentage is an integration result. Two analysts can integrate the same trace differently, particularly where a shoulder peak sits near the main peak. Reviewing the chromatogram shows whether impurities are small and well-separated or large and co-eluting.
Confirm molecular weight against the sequence
The theoretical monoisotopic mass of a peptide is fixed by its sequence. If the mass-spectrometry result differs by a value that does not correspond to a known adduct or salt form, the identity is unconfirmed regardless of how clean the HPLC trace looks.
Verification is per lot, not per product
Purity is a property of a manufacturing run. A page-level claim covering an entire product line is a marketing statement; a lot-level record is evidence. Published Ares records are lot-scoped and searchable through the COA batch lookup.

- Retesting is normally tied to the material's stated shelf life or to a storage excursion. A lot analysed years before dispatch should be re-characterised rather than relied on.
- Can purity change after testing?
- Yes. Peptides degrade with heat, light, humidity and time in solution, so a purity figure describes the lot at the analysis date under the storage conditions that followed.
